Spear/pet ranger builds competition for lulz & prizes
I'm bored and I wanna play around with the whole spear-pet ranger idea (it's for lulz) I've been playin' with builds myself I wanna just see what some people come up with and maybe use some idea's I've not thought about yet so I'm trying to start a competition to see who can come up with the best spear-pet ranger build
Criteria for submissions:
1. Must be fun to play. (will be determined by me)
2. Must be a viable build, meaning it can do stuff like HM relatively good.
3. Must use a spear and a pet. (Spear doesn't mean you have to be R/P, if you can make a R/Me and have it fun to play and/or say an effective tank build or damager, or interrupter that would be cool and might even earn you bonus points)
4. Must be made for general pve meaning non-specialized. (not for dungeons though if it can be used for such in addition to general pve, or with minor tweaks the better)
5. Must be a ranger primary.
6. Must be a stand-alone build. (meaning it can be used with any H/H team universally to same effect)
7. First person to post the build earns the prize if multiple people post the same build. (the others will be disqualified, minor tweaks will be counted as the same build, that being said if 1 skill is changed but it causes a huge change in play-style it can count as a different build altogether)
8. Submissions must be on here by Monday, June 7th 2010 @ 1700hrs (UTC) and a copy must be sent to me via private message, which includes your in-game name, on this website. (in case this thread becomes chaotic and I'm unable to find it)
9. The submissions will be judged by me and prizes will be given out.
10. Only 1 submission per player will be accepted as a submission (if you wish to change your submission simply edit your post)
11. Submissions must include either a (proper) Link, or a template code.
Prizes: (may be updated)
Grand Prize: Q9 +5e (20% enchanting) Zodiac sword (Sorry, work conflicted it'll still get ya 50k easily and its inscribable)
2nd Place Prize: 15k
3rd Place Prize: 5k
Notes about commenting:
If you have anything to say about others builds you will be ignored especially if it's negative, if you have suggestions and want to help them adjust their build feel free to do so as they may give you some of their prize (especially if you do it in a kind/friendly manner)
Notes about trolling:
If you wish to troll... DON'T... go elsewhere no one wants to hear it, this is a friendly competition no need to bicker and say stupid shit. (I would be very thankful if the moderators were to assist me in removing troll posts)
Notes about entries:
-Pictures help alot especially showing the build in action.
-Self healing may or may not considered depending on other aspects of the build.
-Post whatever ya got, sometimes wacky builds turn out better than you expect, so be open minded, someone might post a suggestion to your build and have it turn out great.
-Asuran scan does NOT affect pet damage.
-Using PvX Decode can make this more... me-friendly
-I WILL be asking for your IGN, so I know who to contact when the time approaches to pick the winner. (only in pm's to avoid any privacy shinanigans)
-Remember to PM me the builds (Link or template code format) on THIS website so they don't get lost and forgotten in the clutter (if any). *That being said you only need to send me the build, runes required and a minor description of intended use, most other information is irrelevant*
Current entries (at time of last update):
Testing has begun... further entries WILL be accepted up to the point of competition end.
Imevil<- Tested
Dre-send me a pm with your IGN when you get the chance. (may result in disqualification if I'm unable to contact you.)<- Disqualified
nightschroud<-Tested
Luminarus<- tested

Torpoon<- Thinking outside the box... I like it, also... tested.

The Winners: (includes notes, bare in mind I DO NOT give perfect scores and I judge fairly)
after a Long night of Testing I came up with these:
The 3rd place Prize winner for 5k is: (if I wasn't being fair and based it more on fun this definitely would've won)
Torpoon
Reasons and Judging Factors:
Fun?: 11/11 (Just f**kin LOLSS I loved it, shared with a few friends we all lol'd and had a GREAT time very fun to use if you don't give a f**k about looking like a noob but it's sooo worth it)
Unique?: 8/8 (One of these MOST unique builds in the competition I loved it soo much I almost gave it an extra point just for being THE ONLY build to be this unique.)
Effective?: 10/14 (This build was surprisingly about 100x as effective as I thought it was going to be, and despite misconceptions handled itself VERY well in combat)
Easy to use?: 3/5 (It was fairly easy to use, but obviously was a little confusing at times...)
Mark: 32/38
Verdict: FUNNEST build in the competition, worked 100x better than you'd expect, the pet however does need some armor, might expect a few gimmick teams based off this for the lulz
Tested: Yes, 6th ~4:00-5:00 12/jun/'10
The 2nd Place prize winner for 15k is:
Luminarus
Reasons and Judging Factors:
Fun?: 9/11 (Amazingly fun, not as unique an experience as one could come up with, that being said this is mutually exclusive with effectiveness)
Unique?: 7/8 (unique, but I've seen similar before)
Effective?: 13/14 (Great build, slight damage deficit, easily countered by daze)
Easy to use?: 5/5 (Very very easy to use, some complexity with conditions, but if you have a 15th of a braincell ur gonna overcome it.)
Mark: 34/38
Verdict: Very easy to use, great build, asuran scan might make this build better (as opposed to many other builds in the where it was rendered useless)
Tested: Yes, 3rd, ~3:10- 3:45 05/jun/'10
and finally the GRAND PRIZE winner for a fabulous Req. 9, inscribable gold max zodiac sword with +5e and 20% enchanting mods, IS.... (drum roll please)
Magic Wut Huh Asdf
Reasons and Judging Factors:
Fun?: 10/11 (right off the bat alot of fun a VERY VERY nice combination of skills)
Unique?: 7/8 ( it's a very unique experience but it still falls in the ...kinda expected category)
Effective?: 14/14 (All around great build, I had a few situations where my party almost wiped trying to stress-test the build and I had 2-3 people die but I remained at full health the entire fight my pet did to and we still pulled through and recovered easily)
Easy to use?: 5/5 (Very very easy to use, some complexity with conditions, but if you have a 15th of a braincell ur gonna overcome it.)
Mark: 36/38
Verdict: Very easy to use, effective, a GREAT combination, might even become a popular build in the underground for people who like this sorta stuff *raises hand* not I did use the heal as one variant.
Tested: Yes, 5th ~3:00-3:40 12/jun/'10
Notes: I chose this build because not only did it meat all the requirements, being very effective fun and easy to play and unique for this competition, it also captured a little bit of the spirit and used both the spear and the pet to maximum effect and rose above all else and was just the perfect pick. Dispute all you want this is the best build out of this competition.

Hi, this is the build I'm thinking about :
1) Enraged Lunge ( PvE ) / Strike As One ( especially for PvP )
2) Asuran Scan ( PvE only )
3) Spear of Fury ( PvE only, Luxon/kurz skill )
4) Poisonous Bite
5) Bestial Pounce
6) Barbed Spear /Spear of Lightning
7) Scavenger Strike
8) Comfort Animal
For PvP, you need to add Charm Animal instead of Asuran Scan and get Otyugh's Cry instead of Spear Of Fury.
Well, that's it... hope you'll enjoy the build, good luck and have fun.
The Skill temple is : OgkiYxl8ILBAl+aZt5BjboNA.
P.S : The skill which is missing is Asuran Scan because i didn't get it on the my ranger character

link
bm +1+1, exp +1
Optional is either EVAS or PI
(usually the former, but the latter is useful in areas with lots of AoE)
Holy spear is in there because of the MM's currently running around in Kryta (WiK) (can be replaced with Harrier's Toss)
NRA + Heal as One for more pet damage

the build i used to complete HM with my ranger
link
this is the build with wich i did most HM on my ranger with
beast mastery : +2
expertise : +1 +1
spear mastery :10 ( can be lowered to 9 and given a point to beast mastery , its just 10 because my spear is req 10 )
zealous spear is prefferable
can easily handle most HM situations , while providing a decent frontliner ( / agro distracter ) with the pet , that will survive nearly everything u throw , and deals damage with enraged lunge , wild throw is there for all the annoying block stances , just keep it on recharge if you know you'll need it , otherwise spamm =P
this is the team build i used , really fun aswell xD
hero ranger 1 and 2
identical builds , wich give another 2 pet helpers =)
necromancer hero support
really fun builds to mess around with ^^
the necro can also be replaced with a paragon like
support paragon
this build gives more armor towards the spear-rangers and adds damage with the shouts

Stunning Strike
You Move Like A Dwarf
Spear of Fury
Merciless Spear
Blazing Spear
Scavengers Strike
Never Rampage Alone
Comfort Animal
(Put the build on my pvx wiki userspace: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/User:Lumin...tunning_Strike)
Template code: OgkjYpXYJT2kleCZKYDZ4G8g0GA
Has pretty decent damage from the perma IAS, constant damage, easy to apply daze. YMLAD is pretty good damage and spammable really easily with scavengers strike. Merciless is really an optional slot, I like it for deepwound but Ive used it for the aoe pet attack and other skills in varying situations. Works nice with hero/hench because it destroys casters and also has a sort of tank in the form of the pet.

I usually run this when I'm in a "spear mood" on my ranger. The build is very straightforward. A zealous spear is recommended and I am using a r7 ar15 command shield - however expertise can be dropped by 2 points allowing 9 in command (ofc command can be dropped at all, switching gfte for holy spear). I admit some skills are there merely because I find them fun .

i can give u builds for all those xp , but i can only submit one xD
also ..RaO is fun , but when you have Never rampage alone , it gets a litle bit redundant for using your elite skill xp

agreed but it's kinda teh balls cuz even with 13 expertise it still costs 13e which is kinda harsh on the ranger and just not cool and besides was tryin' to inspire more people to join in on the build makin' if this gets enough ppl interested I might do it on like a weekly or bi-weekly basis with different sets of random work arounds and see what people can come up with. I kinda wanna see someone try like a R/E conjure/pet or something silly like that

16 Beast
13 Expertise
3 Spear Mastery
Heal as One
Otyugh's Cry
Feral Aggression
Call of Protection
Feral Lunge
Scavenger Strike
Brutal Strike
Barbed Spear
I run that on my ranger, it's very effective for general PvE. Combines a very durable pet with high damage output (average of 110-120 damage per attack), even in HM. Only real counters are blind on your pet, or to a lesser extent enemies that don't bleed; just means you won't be able to apply the conditions yourself to fulfill the energy gain requirements for Scavenger Strike, but most parties I've found carry other conditions anyway, so it's rarely an issue.

Here
+2 Beast Mastery +1 Expertise will get you +13 energy off Scavenger Strike and 9 expertise is a breakpoint for 10e skills like Brutal Strike...
Use a Zealous Spear and your favorite fluffy companion. GDW the pet, Never Rampage Alone, pick a target, and attack. Once Barbed Spear is charged up, use Scavenger Strike to regain the energy cost of GDW and NRA. Spear of Fury is basically just nice damage with the bonus of charging up Merciless Spear. Once your target's below 50% health, hit them with Merciless Spear and Brutal Strike, and enjoy the 150 damage and deep wound.
There's no elite in this build, but you could fit one in pretty easily.
Comfort Animal -> Heal as One
Never Rampage Alone -> Rampage as One
Barbed Spear -> Strike as One
Merciless Spear -> Cruel Spear for bonus damage

8 Tactics 12 Beast 10 Expertise - Full sentry insignias, rune up however you wish but keep health relatively high. Spear W/ adrenaline mod and +5 Armor. Shield W/ +30HP and -2phys. dmg while in stance.
Ear Bite
Brawling Headbutt
Low Blow
Heket's Rampage
"To the Limit!"
Heal as One
Feral Aggression
"For Great Justice!"
Build up adrenaline from afar with your spear making sure to maintain your nonstop 33% attack rate stance, heal as one and feral aggression. Run in at melee range as the foes close in. Notice that touch skills are not recognized as attacks, and all of your pets damage buffers are also not attacks, this allows you to utilize the underused Heket's Rampage. Use your shouts wisely to pull off a powerful Brawling Headbutt+Low Blow combo dealing large amounts of armor ignoring damage. Since this build is single target make sure to attack healers to be most useful to your team. With your extremely fast attack rate, and adrenaline boosting shouts you should be able to spam your touch skills quite often. Use your pet controls to make sure your pet is attacking the same target as you. Your pet is also attacking at great speed and no attack skills are needed for decent damage output. The build will feel awkward at first.
Note: You are not a tank, let the foes engage before you run forth. Maybe even send your pet in first, but be sure to keep him alive.

Here goes:
High Powered Spear Chucker:
[E] Scavenger's Focus
Harrier's Toss
Slayer's Spear
Barbed Spear
Brutal Strike
Apply Poison
Comfort Animal
Never Rampage Alone
Beast Mastery 7+1
Expertise 8+1
Wilderness Survival 8+1+1
Spear Mastery 12
The idea is to chuck out high powered spear attacks over and over without fear of losing energy. Expertise + Scavenger's Focus mean that you can keep pumping out high attacks very quickly, and the ability to inflict DW below 50% health is balanced by the fact that you can hit Brutal Strike on recharge and your pet will destroy any foes close to death.
Its just a little something which uses an elite which doesn't get any love - thought I'd give it a go.

Pwn as One {PvE}
Heya Jimmy!
I'm a bit of a build buff myself, and I've had a beastmaster ranger since I got GW a couple months after launch.
Here's a link to my main PvE build, which just so happens to be an R/P beastmaster.
It's called Pwn as One {PvE}, but it's been nicknamed "Hamstorm" by my guildies. ...Long story, but has to do with an all pet team using warthogs in Alliance Battles and that awesome build on the Prophs box.
